AWASH WINERY FINANCES JAZZ AMBA MUSIC SCHOOL

Awash Wine, a private share company whose owners includes the Irish musician, Sir Bob Geldof, who helped Ethiopia during the

1984 famine through LiveAid concert, supported Jazz Amba Music School in Addis Ababa, by providing  $25,000 grant for the coming six months. The school, which was established five years ago by five top Ethiopian modern musical instrument players and composers, has been providing a free of charge training for talented Ethiopians.

“The school used to finance its training program from the Jazz Amba Club, which was destroyed by fire a few months ago. We decided to finance in order to support Ethiopian music and sustain the free training of the school,” Colin Frey, General Manager of Awash Winery said this morning at the official launching of his company’s partnership with the school.

“In addition,” he said, “It is also part of our corporate social responsibility to be involved in the community and address some of the challenges of the community.”

Awash Winery has been engaged in supporting children of farmers who are working on its grapes farm to get education, according to Mr. Frey, who also told newBusinessEthiopia.com reporter his company’s plan to be engaged in supporting football related activities in Ethiopia in the future. Awash Winery with its farm located 115km south east of Addis Abeba, was privatized by the Ethiopian government in mid-2013.
